Mr. Donald Bailey, 83, of Venice Florida, and husband of Betty J. Mangino, died surrounded by family on July 5th, 2019 at Country Meadows Leader Heights in York.

Don was born in Meadville, on Oct. 21, 1935, the son of the late Dr. Oakland K. and Susan (McBride) Bailey.

On July 4, 1959, Don and Betty married at St. Mary's Church in Meadville. 

Don was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Venice, Fl.

Don retired as president and CEO of Talley Metals Technology in Hartsville, S.C. Earlier, he served as president of Flinchbaugh Products, Red Lion, Pa., and vice president of the former Talon division of Textron, Meadville, Pa.  Following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army for service during the Korean War, Don continued to serve his country as sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Over the years Donald served as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Defense Preparedness Association, of Specialty Steel Industry of the United States and as President of National Contract Managers of Central Pennsylvania. Always active in his local community, Donald was a member of the Venice Plantation Golf and Country Club and a member of the Board of Directors of the Governors Green Homeowner's Association in Venice. While living in Hartsville, SC he served as a member of the Rotary Club and a member of the Board of Directors of the United Way. When Meadville was his home, Donald was a former member of the Meadville Country Club as well as a member of their Board of Directors. He had also been a member of the Meadville Eagles Club, Meadville Elks Club, Kiwanis Club, the Youth Probationers, Meadville City Hospital Board of Incorporators, Meadville Area Vo-Tech Board of Directors, an active member of the Meadville Taylor Hose Club, President of the Toastmasters and President of the Meadville Area Youth Baseball Assoc.

In addition to his wife Betty, with whom he'd just celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary, Don is survived by his children Susan Thomas of York, Pa., Jeff Bailey (Jacqueline) of Moultonborough, N.H., Don Bailey (Heather) of Madison N.J., and Mark Bailey (Janine) of Telford, N.J. Don was blessed with eleven grandchildren that he adored-Ryan, Greg, Emily, Meg, Andy, Sara, Austin, Caroline, Miles, Griffin, and Charlie, along with three great grandchildren Lydie, Max, and Leo. Don is also survived by his brother James Bailey of Monroe, NC and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by siblings Oakland King Bailey, Harold Bailey, William Bailey and Marian Bailey Hyman.

Family and friends are invited to call Sunday, July 7, from 2-4 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a scripture service will be conducted at 3:45 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, July 8, at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville.

Don will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, PA 16335.
