Frank LaPuma, 97, of 10362 Virginia Circle, La Vista, NE, formerly of Meadville, passed away Sunday, September 4th, 2011 at Rose Blumkin Jewish Home, Omaha, NE.
One of nine children, Frank was born in Meadville on August 10, 1914, a son of the late Vito and Jenny (Grippi) LaPuma.
On September 8, 1949 Frank married Angeline Albano; she preceded him in death on November 26, 1984.
While living in Meadville, he was a member St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church.
For several years Frank was a partner of the former Lapumas restaurant which was located at 1158 S. Main Street in Meadville. In his earlier days he had been employed by the former Talon, Inc. of Meadville. A WW II veteran, Frank entered the US Army on December 16, 1942 and served his country in the 90th Infantry Division, 3rd Battalion, Company D 3rd Machine Gun Squad of General Pattons Army which participated in the second wave of the Invasion of Normandy. He was a recipient of two Purple Hearts, the American Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Army Occupation Medal and two Bronze Stars. Frank was honorably discharged on October 27, 1945. He was a life long member of V.F.W. Post 2006 and was an avid New York Yankees fan.
Frank is survived by two sons Victor F. LaPuma and his wife Stephanie of La Vista, NE, Peter J. LaPuma and his wife Marion of Cedar Park, TX, three grandchildren Shobana, Indhira, Zachary, a sister Nancy Barco of Meadville, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife Angeline of 35 years, Frank was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters Jane Cross, Frances L. Miceli, Josephine Albano, Joseph LaPuma, Samuel LaPuma, Mary J. Headlund and Lena Albano.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a scripture service will be conducted at 4 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 9th, 2011, with Fr. Marc Solomon, Pastor, officiating.
Interment with Full Military Honors by V.F.W. Post #2006 will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
