George W. Herzberger, Iii

George W. Herzberger, III, 67, of Cochranton, passed away Monday, January 5, 2015 at UPMC Northwest, Seneca.
 
George was born in Pittsburgh, on February 13, 1947, a son of the late George W. and Gladys B. (Bartlett) Herzberger, Jr.
 
On November 8, 1986 George married Leigh A. Smock; she survives.
 
With his family, George has operated Heart Hill Farms, where they have enthusiastically raised thoroughbred racehorses for many years.  George’s life revolved around his love for his family and his farm.  He was so very proud of them.   In addition, George served the Cochranton area as the District Magistrate from 1986 until 2006.  He was a graduate of North Allegheny High School in Pittsburgh, he then continued to play baseball at Penn State University where he received his degree in Agriculture.
 
In addition to his wife, Leigh, of  28 years, George is survived by three children Kendra L. Penn and her husband Alex of Paris, KY, Gretchen A. Herzberger, Logan D. Herzberger, both of Cochranton; and many friends.
 
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a sister Jerri Jeanerette.
 
A Memorial Service will be held at Cochranton Community Church, 3993 E. Church St., Cochranton, at 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 8, 2015, with Rev. Stephen C. Clulow, Pastor, officiating.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your choice of C/O John McMichael at The Institute for Therapeutic Discovery, PO Box 127, Delanson, NY, 12053; who dedicates their efforts to health-related scientific research for diseases and disorders.  Or to the Cochranton Community Church; Motzing Center (on memo line), PO Box 531, 3993 East Church Street, Cochranton, Pa 16314.  

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the doctors and nurses that have provided outstanding care throughout this battle, especially to those at the Transitional Care Unit of UPMC Northwest, Seneca, as well as Pastor Steve Clulow for helping George find peace.
