Alfred 'Gus' J. Hall, Jr., 73, of 12804 Kiefer Rd., Springboro, formerly of 4884 S. Bailey Rd., N. Jackson, OH, passed away Friday, October 8th, 2010 at Edinboro Manor, Edinboro.
Alfred was born in Aitch on January 16, 1937, a son of the late Alfred J. and Ruth (Ripple) Hall, Sr.
On February 15, 1960 Alfred married Janet I. Roessler; she preceded him in death on January 8, 2000.
After 42 years of employment as a steel worker, Al retired on January 29, 2000 from W.C.I. Steel, Warren, OH. He attended schools in Trough Creek and was of the Protestant Faith. A US Army Veteran, Al began his service on June 13, 1960 and was honorably discharged on May 25, 1962. He was a talented horse trainer. Al was very skilled not only in breaking horses to drive wagons and carts of all sizes, but he also built the wagons and carts. For 15 years he enjoyed showing miniature horses at the Canfield Fair. He was a long time member of the American Miniature Horse Association, the American Miniature Donkey Association, a former member of the Mahoning Valley Pony Breeders Association, a member of Pioneer Steam and Gas Engine Society of Saegertown and a charter member of the Ellsworth Historical Society, Ellsworth, OH. Al also enjoyed traveling with Anderson Tours.
Alfred is survived by a daughter Tina Marie Hall of North Jackson, his very close companion of ten years Daisy Mook of Springboro, Daisys children who were like family to him William E. Pardee of Albion,Tammie S. Jones and her husband David of Springboro, Cindy L. Bonanno and her husband Thomas of Conneautville, Bonnie Mook and her husband Bernard of Conneautville, four sisters Juliann Holland of Huntington, Catherine Reed and her husband Jack of Homer City, Audrey Edwards of N. Jackson, OH, Bertha Baker of Girard, OH, one brother Dexter Hall and his wife Vickie of Lawrence, IN, his beloved dog Poochie, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife Janet of 39 years, Al was preceded in death by a brother Danny Hall and a sister Eleanor Ruby.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
Visitation will also take place on Wednesday, October 13, from 1-3 at Higgins Funeral Home, North Jackson, OH, where Funeral Services will follow at North Jackson Cemetery, North Jackson, OH. Interment with Full Military Honors by Ellsworth Honor Guard will follow.
