Alice M. Nies Sippy

Mrs. Alice M. Nies Sippy, 86 of 88 Quail Run, Greensburg, formerly of 557 Chestnut St., Meadville, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg.
Alice was born in Pittsburgh on June 10, 1925, the daughter of the late Albert A. and Amelia (Reckinger) Weiland.
On June 8, 1996 Alice married Donald R. Sippy; he preceded her in death on January 10, 2010. She had previously been married to Arthur Nies on October 11, 1947; he preceded her in death on May 27, 1994.
She was a member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, Meadville, where she was a former member of the Altar & Rosary Society.
A 1943 graduate of Carrick High School, Alice later attended Burrows Business College and worked in various office positions. In 1947 Alice and Art moved to Conneaut Lake, and due to his employment with the Railroad, they moved to several states until 1972 when they permanently moved back to Meadville. In 2009 she moved to Greensburg to live with her daughter, May Ann and son-in-law, Angelo. Over the years Alice had been employed by the former Carlisles Dept. Store, now known as Peebles, by Dr. William Wardian and Dr. Michael Walker. She enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking and baking.
Alice is survived by six children Mary Ann Cecconello and her husband Angelo of Greensburg, Patricia Tatman and her husband Greg of Meadville, Arthur J. Nies and his wife Karen of Meadville, Ronald R. Nies of Prospect Park, James A. Nies and his wife Debbie of Meadville, Charles E. Nies of Cooperstown, 18 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, twin brothers Ronald T. Weiland and his wife Farah of CA, Richard T. Weiland of Littleton, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Alice was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Christine Nies, son-in-law James Boley, three sisters Gladys Wayne, Dorothy Cornelius, Marie Consla, four brothers Robert (Bob) J. Weiland, Sr., Kenneth J. Weiland, twin brothers Albert A. Weiland Jr. and Edward A. Weiland.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335 where a scripture service will be conducted at 8:30 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, with Fr. Raymond Gramata, Pastor of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, officiating.
Entombment will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
