Our beloved Alice Virginia Lilly Miller was taken to heaven November 29, 2022; she died at Meadville Medical Center surrounded by her family.
A special thanks to the loving and compassionate ICU and second floor north nursing staff and aides, who took such tender care of her.
Alice was born December 31, 1923 at home, in Coons Corners, Saegertown, the daughter of the late Louis (Bill) Lilly and L. Jane (Jennie) Coon Lilly.
Alice married Alfred Miller on June 22, 1946 at Hamlin Chapel. They divorced in 1980 and he died on February 7, 1996.
Alice is survived by two daughters Darlene Dennis (Carl) of Cochranton, Carole Chulko (Jack) of Conneaut Lake; two grandchildren Bill Dennis (Jen) of Vienna, OH, Barb Butryn (Mark) of Kernersville, NC; three great grandchildren Ryan Dennis (Justine), Aaron Dennis of Stoneboro, Myah Butryn of Kernersville, NC; three step great grandchildren Samantha Phillips, Ty Phillips, Grayson Phillips all of Vienna, OH; two great great grandchildren Jackson Dennis, Isabelle Dennis both of Stoneboro; two sisters Mary Lou Thompson, Frannie Peters (Jim), and a sister in law Ruth Miller. Alice has many nieces and nephews, many great, great great, and great great great nieces and nephews and 40 first cousins and families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers Clair Acker, George, Paul and infant Frank Lilly; two sisters in law Thora Acker, Peg Lilly; a brother in law Jack Thompson.
A very special thanks to her neighbors who assisted her living in her home till her death, Phil Bradley, Tom Maxiener, Ryan Hartle family, Sonja Swanson and Doug Lee.
She was the matriarch of our families and a second mom to many. We were all truly blessed. Alice attended Dunn School (one room) and Hayfield High School. She graduated from Meadville High School in 1941 and helped with many class reunions; the last being her 70th. She was a member of Hamlin Chapel for over 75 years.
Alice worked at Calhoons Grocery, Keystone Ordnance Works (KOW), Crawford County Tuberculosis Society, PA Unemployment Office, as a lunch monitor at Neason Hill School, Mason's Department Store, Morco, and retired from Wesbury United Methodist Home in 1995 at the age of 72. She enjoyed volunteering, was a lifetime member of West Mead Fire Department #1 auxiliary for over 63 years, volunteered for Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for over 35 years, also volunteering at the Chamber of Commerce, Domestic Relations, Southern Care and Kindred Hospice, as a grandma reader at Neason Hill and Second District Schools. She was a member of Saegertown Historical Society, which she truly enjoyed, took many trips with the Eat n Travel Club and enjoyed her monthly luncheons with her Coon cousins.
Visiting hours are from 3-7 PM on Friday, December 2, 2022, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 330 BROAD ST., SAEGERTOWN, where Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11:30 AM with Larry Miller, minister of Hamlin Chapel and Curtis Brenizer, pastor of Milledgeville Community Church officiating.
Burial will be at Venango Cemetery.
