Allan Floyd Dunnewold

Allan "Al" Floyd Dunnewold, 88, of Cambridge Springs, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022, at home following a short battle with lymphocytic leukemia.

Al was born in Clymer, NY on February 25, 1934, a son of the late Alvin John and Elsie Marie (Einink) Dunnewold.

On June 24, 1967, Al married Shirley Ann Pier; she survives.

He was a member of the Saegertown United Methodist Church.

A hard worker all of his life, after high school, Al drove truck for Clymer Bag Company.  He then owned and operated Bowl Aire Lanes, located in Corry. In the years that followed, he worked for Corry Foam, was a self employed contractor, drove a log truck during the building of the Kinzua Dam, and purchased Lost Lanes located in Cambridge Springs in 1985, which he owned until 2002 and worked at until 2018.  From an early age, Al had a passion for bowling.  It was through bowling that he met his wife, Shirley, where they created a bowling family that's been passed down to the third generation, and met many of his best friends and acquaintances through ownership of the lanes, bowling in numerous leagues, and bowling in a traveling league in his younger years.  Bowling gave him the opportunity to travel locally and nationally for tournaments. Al bowled his first 300 game on April 9, 1993; and after a double knee replacement on February 29, 2000, Al broke the Lost Lanes house record with an 833 series on March 27, 2000. He would follow this up by being a winning member of the 2000 Pennsylvania State Team Handicap Championship Tournament.  In 2002, he was inducted into the Western Crawford County Bowling Hall of Fame.  He continued bowling regularly until 2019.  When he wasn't bowling, Al could be found golfing; one of his favorite golf courses was North Hills in Corry and he continued golfing until 2021.  Over the years, Al and Shirley vacationed throughout the U.S. and also enjoyed traveling to follow the bowling tournaments of his grandson. Up until just three weeks ago, he continued to stay very active at home, building bird houses, spending time in his wood shop, plus fixing and making new additions to his home.  He also enjoyed camping, being outdoors, building unique Christmas decorations, and watching nature, especially the deer and birds in his backyard. Al will be remembered for his effortless sense of humor, care free attitude, generous spirit, endless creativity, charming wit, and love of people.  He loved greatly and was greatly loved.

In addition to his wife, Shirley, of 54 years and 11 months, Al is survived by six children: Billy Martin (Linda) of Corry, Dan "Bernie" Dunnewold of Confluence, Ronald Martin (Marge) of Corry, David "Moose" Dunnewold (Kim) of Corry, Donna Dunnewold of Valrico, FL, Ann Archacki (Tom) of Saegertown; ten grandchildren: Hope Springs (Dave), Andrea Dunnewold (Kyle), Nickolas Archacki, Eric Martin (Julie), Jason Martin (Jon), Bryan Martin (Laurel), Kevin Martin, Timothy Martin (Sarah), Joshua Martin (Stacie), Kyle Martin (Kim); numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by two sons; Richard Martin, James Martin; a grandson Allan Glenn Roberts; and his sister Treva Thompson.

Family and friends are invited to call from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave, Saegertown, where a memorial service will follow shortly after 7:00 PM with Pastor Jeff Little officiating.

Al will be laid to rest in Venango Cemetery.
