Andrew 'Andy' Battista, 84, of 1000 Alfred St., Meadville, passed away Tuesday, February 15th, 2011 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie.
Andy was born in Meadville on March 16, 1926, a son of the late Michael and Maddalena (Euliano) Battista.
On October 16, 1948 Andy married Julia Gaglione; she survives.
He was a member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.
In 1991 Andy retired from the former National Teltronics where he had been employed as a purchasing agent. He previously had been employed by the former Talon, Inc., of Meadville, the former GATX of Saegertown, the former Westinghouse and the former Erie Railroad both of Meadville. A veteran of WW II, Andy enlisted in the US Army on August 30, 1944 and served in the 75th Infantry Division. During this time he was engaged and wounded in The Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Following his honorable discharge on June 24, 1946, Andy graduated from Meadville High School in 1947. He furthered his education by graduating from Erie Business College. A life member of both the Italian Civic Club and V.F.W. Post #2006, he was a former member of the Meadville Eagles Club and the Meadville Elks Club. His interests including golfing, bowling and attending casinos. Andy loved reminiscing, telling stories and jokes. He will be remembered as a people person.
In addition to his wife Julia of 62 years, Andy is survived by a son Andy Battista of Meadville, two sisters Jeannette Orr, Lucy McNamara and her husband Louis both of Meadville, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Andy was preceded in death by his step-mother Caterina Petruolo Battista, two brothers Anthony 'Tony' Battista and Burton 'Bus' Battista.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a scripture service will be conducted at 8:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 19th, with Fr. Mark Solomon, Pastor, officiating.
Interment with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
