Andrew "Andy" J. Frisina, 95, of 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Wesbury United Methodist Community.
Andy was born in Meadville, on May 26, 1923, a son of the late Joseph and Theresa (Brescione) Frisina.
On March 23, 1963 he married Barbara Laush; she preceded him in death on April 28, 2017.
He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Rockville, MD.
Growing up in Meadville Andy played baseball, football and basketball in many local leagues. Following his graduation from Meadville High School, he attended Allegheny College. A WW II veteran, Andy was drafted in the US Army on February 8, 1943. He served as a Platoon Sergeant, Combat Engineer with the 208th Engineer Combat Battalion and was a participant of the first invasion of France from England. Following his honorable discharge on December 22, 1945, Andy was employed as a Supervisor at the former American Viscose. It was there that he met Barbara. In 1959 Andy became employed by the CIA where he had a successful career. Following his retirement in 1986, he did consulting work for them for 20 more years. He specialized in explosives and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) which required much travel throughout the world. During these years he mastered seven foreign languages.
Andy enjoyed music and "dancing the night away" with his late wife. Together they made great memories dancing at the Eagles Club, Moose Lodge and his personal favorite, the ICC Club. He enjoyed attending his Army reunions and traveling with his wife.
Andrew is survived by a sister Rose Marie Vardaro of Meadville, many nieces and nephews, including his Godson, Bill Frisina and his wife Chris of Cambridge Springs.
In addition to his parents and his wife Barbara of 54 years, Andrew was preceded in death by a sister Josephine Herlihy, three brothers Joseph, Frank and Tony Frisina.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 1:30-3:00 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT STREET MEADVILLE, with funeral services following at 3:00 PM with Fr. Tom Trocchio, Parochial Vicar, officiating. Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will follow. Because Andy was in the hospital at the time of his wife, Barbara's death, there was no visitation for her. Therefore anyone who wishes to pay their respects to Barbara are welcome to do so at this time.
Andrew will be laid to rest with his wife Barbara at St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
Memorial contributions may be made to W.C.J. Ranch C/O Shawn Schmitz, 16773 Kebort Hill, or Lilac Springs 7907 Dutch Hill Road, both in Meadville, PA 16335.
