Anthony D. Santoro, 80, of 17481 Mullen Rd., Meadville, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at home.
Anthony was born in Meadville on November 24, 1930, a son of the late Frank and Amalia (Trucco) Santoro.
On December 13, 1953 Anthony married Joann L. Rich; she survives.
He was a member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.
In 1993 Anthony retired from Erie County Farms after 13 years of service. Prior to that he was a business entrepreneur who owned a variety of businesses. A 1950 graduate of Meadville High School, Anthony joined the National Guard in 1949 then entered the US Army on September 5, 1950. While serving with the 28th Division Heavy Mortar Company in Germany, he attained the rank of Sergeant which he held until his honorable discharge on July 12, 1952. In his earlier years Anthonys love of boxing was apparent in his skill and talent. He was a proud member of the I.C.C. where he formerly served as a Trustee and Treasurer. He enjoyed traveling and visiting gaming establishments. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends. Anthony will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather who was respected by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife Joann of 57 years, Anthony is survived by a son Frank J. Santoro, a daughter Toni Beth Kaup and her husband Anthony, both of Virginia Beach, VA, ten grandchildren Stacie, Erin, Anthony and his wife Iris, Daniel, Brenna and her husband Mike, Bart, Joanne, Jeremy, Brittany and her husband Josh, five great grandchildren Nicholas, Luke, Lilja, Ryder, Eyja, a brother Frank Santoro and his wife Josephine, a sister Antoinette Allegretti both of Meadville, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Anthony was preceded in death by a daughter Therese Anne Feller and a brother Angelo P. Santoro.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 5-8 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a scripture service will be conducted at 7:30 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 8, 2011, with Fr. Mark Solomon, Pastor, officiating.
Interment with Full Military Honors by V.F.W. Post #2006 will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, PA 16335.
