Anthony “Tony” J. Bevacqua, II, 87, of Meadville, passed away July 27, 2024 at Meadville Medical Center.
Tony was born in Johnsonburg on May 26, 1937, a son of the late Anthony J. and Rose Bevacqua, Sr.
On July 13, 1968, Tony married Barbara Stiteler; she survives.
He was a member of The Epiphany of the Lord Parish and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #388.
Tony was a 1955 graduate of Johnsonburg Area High School. A US Veteran, he served his country honorable as a member of the US Army. He went on to further his education at Lock Haven University and earned his master’s degree in Elementary Supervision from the State University of New York College at Buffalo. He began his 42-year career in education at Kane Elementary School before returning to Johnsonburg Area School District where he held the position of Elementary School Principal. He then went on to become employed as an Elementary School Principal for Crawford Central School District where he worked at First District Elementary School, East End Elementary School, and Cochranton Elementary School. He fondly became known as “Mr. Drinkwater”. He retired at age 65 after a successful administrative career. In his retirement he and Barbara enjoyed traveling, especially to South Africa, Australia, Peru, and Vietnam.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, of 56 years, Tony is survived by five children; Anthony J. Bevacqua III of Meadville, Kevin Bevacqua (Laura) of Baltimore, MD, Mark Bevacqua (Devon) of Meadville, Jeff Bevacqua (Lydia) of Erie, Amy Bevacqua (Ryan) of Conneaut Lake; two grandchildren, Amber (Jason), Arabella; two great grandchildren, Geo, Vincenzo; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his sister, Jacqueline Reilly.
Family and friends are invited to call from 5-7 P on Friday, August 2, 2024, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Scripture Service will be held at 6:45 PM.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, August 3, at The Epiphany of the Lord Parish, St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, with Fr. Jeff Lucas officiating.
Tony will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006.
