Anthony "Tony" J. Jantosik, 99, of Saegertown, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Crawford County Care Center.
Tony was born to Anna (Valko) Jantosik and Martin Jantosik in Ellsworth, PA, on June 12, 1922.
He married Christine Misko on January 15, 1944; she joined the ranks of the war brides of their era. They were married 71 years when the good Lord took her from this world. Death may have parted them, but she was forever on his mind and in his heart. They are now walking hand in hand in God's Kingdom of Heaven.
He was a WW II veteran of the US Army Air Corps where he honorably served his country in Germany from 1943-1946. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with one bronze star and the Victory Medal. After the service he worked for G. E. in Erie, and then took over the family farm in 1968, and worked for Heatrix for 21 years until he retired in 1987. He was a charter and lifetime member of Venango VFW Post #169. He was a member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church in Crossingville. His hobbies were almost too many to list. One he is most know for is his woodworking as he is the gentleman who happily placed his wooden cut outs of woodpeckers, snoopy dogs (which became known as "Tony Dogs"), and swans on any available fence post, railing, or tree that he deemed worthy of his creations. He was know as "the bluebird man" in the Mosiertown area, because when he retired he put out over 300 bluebird boxes and would maintain each of them. He would tell people, when he retired "he went to the birds". He always had a beautiful and bountiful garden; he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He started bicycling when he retired and finally gave it up around 1980. Getting clipped by a pick up when he was 77 didn't stop him. When he mended he was "back in the road" for a few more years before retiring his bike. In his later years he was often seen cruising along Tamarack Lake, U.S. flag waving on his John Deere Gator. It is now idle. He was an amazing man. He was happy to help anyone he could. He was a devoted husband, brother, dad and grandpa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Christine on February 3, 2015; his son, Larry, on September 11, 2018; his sister Helen Morrone on December 10, 2019; and his son in law Craig Winans.
Anthony is survived by his daughter Kathy Winans of Meadville; three grandchildren Melissa and Eric Herrmann of Erie, Brad Winans (Maureen Chapin) of Meadville, and Sarah and Josh Burroughs of Erie; and one great grandchild Logan Herrmann. He is also survived by many nieces and one nephew.
We can never thank all the staff at the Crawford County Care Center. They are an amazing group of people; they bent over backwards for Tony and the family. You guys are the best!!
