Arlene Josephine (Roae) Smith, 93, of Saegertown, died Thursday, September 20, 2012, at Crawford County Care Center surrounded by her loving family.
She was born February 3, 1919, in Meadville, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Jannot Roae.
Arlene married Woodrow W. Smith on October 21, 1939. He died December 22, 1981.
She graduated from St. Agathas High School in 1938. She was a homemaker on their Hatch Hill Road family farm. She was a long-time member of St. Hippolytes Church and in recent years was an active member of St. Bernadettes Church in Saegertown where she was a Eucharistic Minister.
Arlene enjoyed visits from her sons, daughters and many grandchildren and great-grand children as well as many friends. She loved to laugh and always brought a smile to those whom she came in contact with. She was always appreciative of the care she was given from the thoughtful staff at the Crawford County Care Center.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Marion Kightlinger and Jean Wood; two brothers, Dobie Roae and Charles Roae; a daughter, Mary Lou Barickman and a grandson, Jeff Smith.
She is survived by her children: Ronald Smith and his wife, Janelle of Guys Mills; Carol Barnard and her husband, Ronald of Canadohta Lake; Georgia Chalmers and her husband, Tom of Meadville; Frederick Smith and his fiancee, Denise Allen of Saegertown; Jane Bubna and her husband, Denis of Meadville; Joy Jordan and her husband, Michael of Meadville; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown, where a scripture service will be conducted at 2:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 PM at St Bernadettes Roman Catholic Church, Renner Ave., Saegertown, on Saturday, September 22nd, 2012, with Fr. Dennis Veltri, officiating.
Interment will take place in St. Hippolyte Cemetery, East Mead Twp.
