Barbara Ann Luikart, 83, of 346 Euclid Ave., PO Box 303, Saegertown, passed away Monday, May 27th, 2013 at UPMC-Hamot Medical Center, Erie.
Barbara was born on May 1, 1930, a daughter of the late Edward and Annabelle (Pratt) Baker.
On April 16, 1949 Barbara married Walter J. Luikart; he preceded her in death on January 31, 1997.
She was a member of Saegertown United Methodist Church and of the United Methodist Women.
Barbara retired from Penncrest School District where she had been employed as a Second Grade Teacher at Saegertown Elementary School for many years. She received her BS Degree in Elementary Education in 1967 as well as her Masters Degree as a Reading Specialist in 1971 from the former Edinboro State College. She was a 1948 graduate of Saegertown High School. Barbara was a lifetime member of the PA State Education Association, a member of the Red Hat Society and the Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary where she volunteered as a Red Coat. For many years she and her husband, Walter, were involved with the Saegertown Tree Committee as well as the Scouts. She enjoyed playing the organ and met with a group of women, playing in their homes. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and gifting her afghans to family and friends. Her cottage at Lake Chautauqua was where she loved spending as much of her time as possible. Barbara will be remembered as being a sounding board for her family and friends.
Barbara is survived by three children Judy Vanderwende and her husband Chris of Saegertown, Bonnie Jean Scarpino and her husband Larry of Meadville, Mark Luikart of Saegertown, three grandsons Zackery Luikart and his wife Tammy of Spring Lake, NC, Kipp Vanderwende, Anthony Scarpino both of Meadville, a sister Kathy Fry of Las Vegas, NV, two brothers Edward Baker and his wife Pat of Brooksville, FL, Gordon Baker and his wife Sandy of CA, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Walter, of 47 years, Barbara was preceded in death by a brother Charles Baker, two sisters Laurabelle Bacon and infant Marion Baker.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, May 31, 2013, from 3:00-4:00 at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, where Funeral Services will be held at 4 PM, with Rev. Darrell L. Greenawalt, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will take place in Saegertown Cemetery, Hayfield Twp.
