Barbara J. White, 87, of Meadville, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022, at Meadville Medical Center.
Barbara was born in Meadville, on September 7, 1934, a daughter of the late Orval N. and Melba (Fristrom) Collins.
On August 26, 1960 Barbara married Raymond L. White in Ripley, NY; he survives.
She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and a former member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, having held various positions and also singing in their choirs.
Barbara was a graduate of Meadville High School, class of 1953. She went on to work for the former Talon, Inc. in the Accounts Receivable Department for 3 years, the former Merchants National Bank in the Bookkeeping Department for 12 years and retired from Crawford Central School District as an elementary secretary with over 20 years of service. Many people remember her as the East End school secretary or for her work in the library at Neason Hill school.
Barb had a passion for researching family history of the Collins and White lines and over the years has collected many interesting facts and photos. In 1973 she joined the Colonel Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, holding several offices over the years. She was a charter member of the Kenton Kin Association where she served as president, editor, and publisher of the Kenton Kin Newsletter. Barb is a direct descendant of the Great Frontiersman General Simon Kenton, who was credited for saving the life of Daniel Boone. General Kenton also served in the American Revolutionary War under the command of George Rogers Clark.
In addition to her loving husband Ray of 61 years, Barbara is survived by a wonderful daughter Pamela Rae Thomas, an amazing granddaughter Shannon Rae Thomas both of Mechanicsburg; several nieces, nephews, brothers in law and sisters in law. Preceding her in death was her brother Gunnar O. (Sue) Collins of Palatine, IL.
