Barbara Jean Spears

Barbara Jean Spears, 87, of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at home.

Barbara was born in Roanoke, VA on September 14, 1932, a daughter of the late Boomer and Rachael (Keyes) Dowell.

On June 24, 1950 Barbara married Jack Spears; he preceded her in death on October 13, 2011.

While living in Meadville, Barbara was a member of Lyona Bible Church and had previously been a member of First Baptist Church in Strongsville, OH.

Barbara was primarily a homemaker, but she was also an entrepreneur, poet and teacher at heart. She loved a challenge and if she saw something that she wanted to do she wouldn't be satisfied until she accomplished it.
She loved everything from woodworking, sewing, gardening, terrariums, crafts and everything in between.
She instilled in her children the ability to take on challenges and to not be afraid of something new.

Barbara is survived by four children Bonnie L Fox (Roy) of Broadview Heights, OH, Denise Fraser (Michael) of Meadville, Jack C. Spears of Denver, CO, Brian J. Spears of Loxahatche, FL, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a sister Joanne Fox, and a brother Conley Dowell both of Roanoke, VA.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Jack, of 61 years, Barbara was preceded in death by a daughter Janine A. Looney and a brother James "Jimmy" Dowell.

Visitation will be held on March 19, 2020 from 10 - 11 AM at Christ Community Chapel, 750 W. Streetsboro St., Hudson, Ohio 44236 where a memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM.

Barbara will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, Cleveland, OH.
