Barbara W. Smith, 70, of 740 Washington Street, Meadville, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Marquette Hospice House, Meadville.
Barbara was born in Rutland, Vermont on June 5, 1948, a daughter of the late Richard Malcolm and Lora (Hadley) Wallace.
On December 10, 1988, Barbara married Jack I. Smith; he preceded her in death in September, 2004.
She was an active member of St. John Missionary Full Gospel Baptist Church, Meadville, where she was a member of the Kitchen Committee, Food Pantry Committee, Carpet Committee and 100 Year Anniversary Committee.
Following Barbara's graduation from Champlain Valley Union High School, Hinesburg, VT, she worked at area restaurants and installed wall coverings until moving to Meadville where she became self-employed hanging wall coverings. She was a lifetime member of VFW #2006 and had several interests including vegetable gardening, sewing, knitting, cooking, baking and reading murder mysteries as well as Christian books.
Barbara is survived by four children Heidi Hadley of VT, James A. Provost of VT, Eli H. Provost and his wife Michelle of Meadville, Ethan P. Provost and his wife Sally of San Jose, CA, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a sister Debra Gillingham and her husband Stephen of Fredonia, a brother Richard M. Wallace Jr., of VT, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband Jack of 15 years, Barbara was preceded in death by a sister Sharon Durkee.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Going Home Service at 6 PM on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, with Pastor Fran Stone officiating.
