Beatrice "Bea" V. Shorts, 94, of 16689 Maple Dr., Saegertown, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at UPMC-Hamot Medical Center, Erie.
Bea was born at home in Hayfield Township, on June 28, 1923, a daughter of the late John and Hazel (Battles) Acker.
On August 14, 1943, Bea married Edward C. Shorts; he survives.
She was an active member of Allida-Smith Wesleyan Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years.
Bea attended a one room school house on Black Road and went on to school in Littles Corners and was the only member of her family to earn a high school diploma, graduating from Meadville High School. She was employed by Loeffler's Flower Shop and Loeffler's Christmas and Garden Center for over 30 years. She later worked at the Green House of Valesky's for a few summers. Bea enjoyed working with flowers and tending to her Koi fish pond. Her greatest joy came from being with her family.
In addition to her husband, Ed, of 74 years, Bea is survived by two daughters Judith A. Pears, Susan Walker and her husband Richard, both of Saegertown, seven grandchildren Brent Pears of Sandy Lake, Julee McDaniel of WV, Charlene Roseberry of Edinboro, Carrie Crouch of IN, Melanie Merritt of Saegertown, Eileen Bish of AR, Michael Walker of Pittsburgh, 23 great grandchildren, ten great great grandchildren, a brother Jack E. Acker and his wife Phyllis of Saegertown, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Bea was preceded in death by a great granddaughter Trista Blackwelder, two brothers Kenneth Acker, James Acker, two sisters Lois Moore and Marion Ferguson.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday from 11-2 at Allida-Smith Wesleyan Methodist Church, 15213 S. Mosiertown Road, Meadville, where Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM with Rev. John Treese officiating.
Bea will be laid to rest in Acker-Roger Cemetery Hayfield Twp.
