Bernice Bradwell, 83, of 14714 Park Ave. Ext., Meadville, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Meadville Rehab. & Nursing Center.

Bernice was born in Gretna, FL on November 18, 1929, a daughter of the late Owen and Lettie (Byrd) Callaway.

On May 8, 1948 Bernice married Millage Bradwell; he preceded her in death on March 10, 1994.

She was an active member of St. John Missionary Full Gospel Baptist Church, Meadville, where she was a member of the Inspirational Choir, the Usher Board and the Esther Burress Missionary Society. She had also served as Sunday School teacher, Superintendent of Sunday School and Youth Choir Director.

In her earlier years, Bernice and her husband owned and operated Sonnys. She was a also a licensed cosmetologist and barber and had owned NuCharm Beauty Salon. For many years she was employed by the former Avtex Fibers and later worked as a cafeteria monitor at Second District Elementary. She was a high school graduate of the Florida School System. Bernice was the founder of the Martin Luther King Scholarship Foundation. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, League of Women Voters, President of the NAACP and volunteered as a Brownie Troop Leader.

Bernice is survived by two children Alyce Williams of Meadville, Carl Bradwell and his wife Jeannie of Columbus, OH, four grandchildren Reagan Williams, Courtney Bradwell, Carl D. Bradwell, Matthew Bradwell, several aunts and a host of cousins.

In addition to her parents and her husband Millage of 45 years, Bernice was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 6-8 at St. John Missionary Full Gospel Baptist Church, 792 N. Main St., Meadville, where Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 11, 2013, with Rev. Joel DiAngi officiating.

Interment will take place in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Meadville Rehab and Nursing Center as well as AseraCare Hospice for the wonderful care they provided while Bernice was in their care.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
