Betty M. Humes, 96, of 535 Williamson Rd., Meadville, passed away Friday, January 15th, 2010 at Hillside Home, Meadville.
Betty was born in Meadville on November 14, 1913, a daughter of the late Lloyd L. and Jennie (Peiffle) Hoffman.
On September 2, 1940 Betty married Harold E. Humes; he preceded her in death on February 26, 1982.
Since 1925 Betty had been a member of First Baptist Church, Meadville, where she served as Sunday School Secretary for 13 years. She was also a member of the MCR Sunday School Class.
Betty was a longtime self-employed music teacher to many students throughout the Meadville area. Following her college graduation, she did graduate and postgraduate work at the former Pennsylvania College of Music. She was a life member of Mu Phi Epsilon Sorority, The Order of the Eastern Star and Myrtle Rebekah Lodge. She was also a member of the I.O.O.F. #60 and a former member of Amaranth Allegheny Court #115. For many years she had done volunteer work at the Crawford County Humane Society.
Betty is survived by several nieces and nephews, including a niece Bonnie Zilhaver who was like a daughter to her, and her husband, Charley, of Meadville.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Harold of 41 years.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2-4 and Monday from 11-12 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 on Monday, January 18th, at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., with Rev. Jerry Walton, Pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will take place in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
