Brian J. Butler, 82, of Meadville, passed away at Wesbury United Methodist Community on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, after an extended illness.
Brian was born at the former Spencer Hospital in Meadville, on July 12, 1937, a son of the late Clare and Gertrude (Stafford) Butler.
In 1956 Brian married the former Donna Sheakley of Saegertown; she survives.
Brian was a 1955 graduate of Meadville High School excelling in Track events. A veteran of the US Navy, Brian served as a seaman aboard the USS Ely for two years followed by four years in the Reserves. For 21 years Brian was employed as an Optician at the former Philadelphia Optical Company and later went on to work for Greenleaf Corporation. While his boys were growing up Brian coached Little League and Senior League Baseball and was associated with the Crawford County Fair where he assisted with the 4H Horse and Pony Department. His hobbies included camping, hunting, traveling and he loved spending time with his family. Brian will be sadly missed.
In addition to his wife, Donna of 63 years, Brian is survived by two sons Pat Butler (Susan) of Meadville, Michael Lynn Butler (Cherrel) of Saegertown, four grandchildren Aaron Butler (Rebecca) of Union City, Elliot Butler (Kamie) of Guys Mills, Lauren Roberts (Dustin) of Saegertown, Nichole Hoffman (Nicholas) of Conneaut Lake, four great grandchildren Blake, Grayson, Colton, Jackson and a brother Charles I. Butler (Patty) of Rockton.
In addition to his parents, Brian was preceded in death by a step brother Gerald Brannon and a step sister Joyce Worst.
Per Brian's request there will be no visitation or services.
