Bruce Michael Boyd, 58, of 20625 Alden St., Meadville, passed away Friday, November 17, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Mercy Health Center, Youngstown, OH.
Bruce was born on February 21, 1959, a son of Viola and the late George Boyd.
On May 1, 2004 Bruce married Anne C. Thompson; she survives.
Most recently Bruce was employed as a counselor for Crawford County Health and Human Services. He had previously been employed by Dresden, Inc., as a chiropractor assistant to Dr. Jack Vandervort and by ERA-Richmond Real Estate, having obtained his real estate license. He enjoyed being a house parent to Jason and was happy to have a hand in raising Adam. Over the years Bruce taught various classes including stained art classes at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. When he was younger Bruce was employed by various companies and retailers in Meadville including the former Stefan's Shoe Store. His first job was as a paper boy. Regardless of what Bruce was doing, his artistic abilities were always apparent. A 1977 graduate of Meadville High School Bruce went on to Edinboro University where he double majored in Psychology and Science. He later earned his Teaching Certificate. Bruce was a lifetime member of Emmanuel Community Church and had been a member of the Meadville Elks BPO #219. One of his life's greatest honors was when he was asked by the Aurel Bachiak Detachment of the US Marine Corps League to become one of its members, and was later elected Chaplain of the Unit. He was especially proud of his membership as it honored his late Uncle Aurel who was killed during the war. Some of Bruce's hobbies and interests included working with and creating stained glass, collecting typewriters, riding his bike and fishing. He possessed a keen knowledge of how things worked and was very handy. Bruce will be most remembered for loving his family and friends fiercely and for living the Word of Christ Jesus who he knew as his Lord and Savior.
Bruce is survived by his mother Viola Boyd Mosso and her husband William, a sister Karen Palmer and her husband Jay, all of Meadville, his very good friend Dave Shilling of Akron, OH, who was like a brother, Kim Goss of Michigan, a life long friend, two nieces Heather Pickens, Holly Ross and a nephew Travis Palmer.
Private services will be held with Rev. Dr. Timothy M. Solomon, Pastor of Emmanuel Community Church, officiating.
Bruce will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Community Church, 30 Park Ave., Meadville, PA 16335.
