Carl W. Johnson, 79, of 135 E. 38th St., Erie, formerly of Saegertown, passed away Monday, January 3, 2011 at Erie VA Medical Center.
Carl was born in Meadville on May 2, 1931, a son of the late Edward and Emma Mae (Page) Johnson.
Carl was a graduate of Meadville High School. A proud US Army Veteran, his service during the Korean Conflict earned him a Purple Heart. As a result of his injuries, Carl remained disabled since the age of 21. He attended Saegertown Community Church. Over the years he enjoyed gardening, photography, bowling, fishing and being involved with selling poppies to raise money for the Veterans Administration. He strongly supported the American Red Cross by being a regular and consistant blood donor.
Carl is survived by his niece Sandi Froncillo and her husband Sam, a nephew Bruce Johnson and his wife Barb, both of Florida, as well as other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by a sister Clara L. Sullens and a brother Paul Johnson.
Family and friends are invited to call onFriday from 9:30-11:30 AMat Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown, PA 16433 where Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM with Rev. David Fugate, Chaplain of Erie VA Hospital, officiating.
Interment with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will take place in Saegertown Cemetery.
