Charles Arthur Lake, 98, of Saegertown, passed away Thursday, April 15th, 2010 at Meadville Medical Center.
Charles was born in Chicago, IL on June 14, 1911, a son of the late Edna G. (Hardwidge) Lake-Householder and James K. Lake.
He attended Wayland Baptist Church, Meadville.
Charles had been employed as a farmhand at the Carnation Milk plant and Palmer Brothers Forging before buying a farm in 1948 on Route 86 near Saegertown. In 1983 he retired from dairy farming after 35 years. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization.
A WW II veteran, Charles enlisted in the US Army on March 6, 1942 where he served under George Patton of the 7th Army in the North Africa Campaign. He also advanced through southern France and Germany as an anti-aircraft specialist. He was honorable discharged on October 27, 1945.
Charles is survived by four sisters Kathryn Smyles of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Isabelle Hunter of Saegertown, Jeanette Hunt, Shirley Stevenson both of Meadville, a brother Evron Householder of Saegertown, several nieces, nephews, a caretaker and friend Joanne Hofmann.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his step father Roy Householder, a sister Edna Kebert and a brother Edgar Householder.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, April 19, 2010, from 11-1 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown, PA 16433 where Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM with Rev. Harlan Nefstead, Pastor of Wayland Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment with Full Military Honors will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.
