Chester S. Morfenski, 80, of Saegertown, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Embassy of Park Ave., Meadville.


Chester was born in Meadville, on June 3, 1943, a son of the late Frank and Bessie L. (Spencer) Morfenski.


Chester was a man of faith who was well versed in the Bible; God was a part of his life.


Immediately after his 1961 graduation from Saegertown High School, Chester became employed by Greenleaf Corporation where he retired as a machinist in 2008, after 47 years of service.  He was proud of the fact that he made a career from the job he took right out of high school.  Chester spent many years at the Saegertown Sportsman's Club and created the Saegertown Bowhunters Club there in the 1980s, He was a past Cussewago Rifleman where he fell in love with history of the Frontiersman.  Chester was a certified bowhunter education instructor and taught bow hunting safety education courses, working with over 1000 young people in his time.  He was an avid and well traveled hunter in North America.  For many years he maintained property as a hunting preserve to assist and ensure safe hunting for young hunters and physically challenged individuals.  Chester's love for nature included French Creek, and his love for life included all things Saegertown.  He was knowledgeable in the boro's history.  Saegertown memorabilia were among his collectables and artifacts, and he took pride in teaching and showcasing its history.  His other hobbies included drawing, writing poetry, photography, creating unique jewelry and walking sticks.  Chester will be remembered as an artist of life.  He was never one to sit idle.  He was very talented, unique, and knowledgeable in many things. He will be missed by many.


Chester is survived by siblings Robert "Bob" Morfenski of Ripley, MS, Daniel Frank Morfenski (Ann Marie) of Las Vegas, NV, Thomas Morfenski of Edinboro, Ruth Haskins (Ronald) of Saegertown; brother in law John Chambley of Conneaut Lake; his former wife Bernice (Howell) Nickelson, with whom he remained friends; many nieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents, Chester was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Clark Morfenski; and a sister Donna "Bonnie" Chambley.


Family and friends are invited to call from 2-4 PM on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, where Funeral Services will follow at 4 PM with Pastor Jeff Little officiating.


Chester will be laid to rest in Saegertown Cemetery.
