Christopher 'Chris' Allen Buchanan, 63, of 755 N. Main St., Meadville, passed away Monday, December 12th, 2011 at home.
Chris was born in Meadville on October 5, 1948, a son of Mobena (Jenkins) Buchanan and the late William 'Buck' Buchanan.
For 37 years, Chris shared his life and love with Elizabeth 'Beth' Greene; she survives.
Chris was baptized at St. Johns Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church, Meadville.
In November, 2004, Chris retired from the Laborers Local Union #964 with more than 33 years of service. During those years, he worked throughout western Pennsylvania. He previously had been employed doing concrete work with Elvin Walker. Following his retirement from the Local Union, he began his own landscaping business, Seasons Unlimited. A 1967 graduate, Chris was an outstanding basketball and volleyball player for Meadville High School. He went on to play basketball at Central State University in Ohio for a period of time until suffering a debilitating knee injury. Chris enjoyed being outdoors, spending time with his two grandchildren, and helping Noah with basketball skills.
Chris is survived by two daughters Jennifer Christie-Searles and her husband John, Bridget Buchanan both of Meadville, two grandchildren Mikhala Hayes, Noah Hayes, his mother Mobena Buchanan Culver of Pittsburgh, three sisters Althea Buchanan of California, Hosezella Kelley, Shannon Starkey both of Pittsburgh, four half brothers Otis Lee Evans, Alfred Wynn Buchanan, James R. Evans, Charles Evans all of Meadville, a host of nieces and nephews including his name sake, a nephew, Christopher Allen Buchanan of San Diego, CA.
In addition to his father 'Buck' Buchanan, Chris was preceded in death by his step mother Margaret (Lilly) Buchanan, two brothers Willie Andrew Buchanan and Lester Buchanan.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, December 19, from 12-3 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 3:00 PM.
