Clarence D. Bond

Clarence D. Bond, Jr. was born in the turbulent year of the stock market crash, on August 21, 1929, to Clarence Dudley Bond, Sr. and Viola (Smith) Bond.  “Sonny” was raised an only child by his father and step-mother Margaret “Peg” (Ebbert) Bond. 
 
He was the beloved husband of the late Jean C. (Chadwick) Bond, who passed away in 1973. 
 
Clarence was a U.S. Air Force Veteran aircraft mechanic during the Korean War who, upon discharge got on one particular street car over another in Washington D.C., wherein he and another airman were invited to a dance.  It was there that he met Jean, the mother of their surviving sons, Christopher and Timothy, both of Rocky River, Ohio.  Clarence was a wonderful father to his sons, and they rode their bicycles everywhere and did a lot together.  He was also into photography, models of various types, and leather working.  He was also a big WWII history buff and enjoyed dabbling in amateur and CB radios.  Clarence worked for a while at Polk State School and Hospital, then later worked and retired in Meadville from Meadville Malleable Iron/Amcast/Advanced Cast Products, and continued working for 15 years as a security guard at Channellock Corp.  During these later, more leisurely years, although he worked, he was active in volunteering with Crawford County Alert and E.C.H.O. providing roadside assistance to drivers in need and with Active Aging, where he also took classes including various types of dance classes, rarely passing up a chance to cut the rug.  He very much enjoyed air shows, auto racing and railroading (both real and model) and attended countless train shows with his sons and companions.  Clarence took every opportunity to travel with family and friends and even enjoyed a trip to Europe.  Clarence always possessed the strong ability to tell a joke which entertained many.  Waning health in these last few years meant he had to quit working, and he moved to Cleveland, Ohio to be near and spend more time with his sons.  He had a fairly active life in Cleveland, attending more train and antique auto shows, walking in the Metroparks, going out to eat, as well as cooking out or staying in watching a movie or TV, and enjoying time with his sons and friends.  He passed away peacefully on March 31, 2017, with family at his side.
 
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 5:30-7:30 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7:30 PM.
 
Following a Committal Service in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Township, on Friday at 10:30 AM, Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006, will be held.  Clarence will be laid to rest with his wife, Jean.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local food pantry or soup kitchen, as it was the strong belief of Clarence, that no one should go hungry.
