Mr. Daniel W. Piccuta, 87, of 150 Waugh Ave., Apt. 2203, New Wilmington, formerly of 2212 N. Mercer St. and 48 Valhalla Dr. both of New Castle, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital, New Castle.
Daniel was born in New Castle, on September 23, 1926, the son of the late Michael and Maria (Augustine) Piccuta.
On December 27, 1951 Daniel married Jennie Fusco; she survives.
An active member of St. Camillus Roman Catholic Church, Daniel had served as an Eucharistic Minister for several years and as an Altar Server for Funeral Masses.
In 1988 Daniel formed Piccuta Financial Services and continued his investment practice until his retirement in 1998. He previously had been employed as a registered licensed representative for the former IDS (Investors Diversified Services) later known as Ameriprise, until 1988 after 28 years of service. In the late 1940s Daniel started, owned and operated the former Dew Drop Inn, New Castle. Following his graduation from New Castle High School in 1945, Daniel went on to serve his country as a veteran of the US Army during WW II and was honorably discharged in 1946. During this time he was promoted to the rank of Technical Sgt. and was stationed in the Tokyo office of General Douglas McArthur. Daniel was a member of the New Castle VFW, American Legion Post #343 and the Knights of Columbus, Council 512. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Jennie, not only in the US but together they also made many trips overseas to Europe and China. Of all his wonderful qualities, Daniel will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who looked forward to visiting and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Jennie of 62 years, Daniel is survived by two sons, Daniel W. Piccuta II and his wife Christina of Kona, HI, David J. Piccuta and his wife Marsha of Duncan, SC, four daughters Janice M. Boazzo and her husband Joseph of Cortland, OH, Joyce A. Markwell and her husband Mark of Greensboro, NC, Jocelyn M. Mizner and her husband Stephen of Meadville, Jacqueline A. Miller and her husband Donald of Rockville, MD, 10 grandchildren Erin, James and his wife Beth, Dr. Jenna and her husband Dr. Andrew, Concetta and her fianc Erik, Aleta, Airel, Joshua, Florentina, Nicholas, Mia, three great grandchildren Grace, Samuel, Gianna, two brothers Anthony Piccuta and his wife Karen of Albuquerque, NM, Andrew Piccuta and his wife Nicolina 'Nikki' of New Castle, 21 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Lee and Albert Piccuta.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, February 2, 2014, from 1 - 4 at Don DeCarbo Funeral Home, 3000 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
The Funeral Procession will leave Don DeCarbo Funeral Home at 9:30 AM to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be held on Monday, February 3, 2014 at 10 AM at St. Camillus Church, 314 W. Englewood Ave, New Castle, with Rev. Philip Farrell, officiating.
Entombment will take place at Castleview Memorial Park, New Castle.
Memorial Contributions may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
