David Colwell, 70, of Dawn Dr., Meadville, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, with his loving wife at his side, after a six month battle with lung cancer.
David was born in Meadville, on November 2, 1947, a son of the late Allen "AJ" and Margaret (Davis) Colwell.
On the day of his 68th birthday, David married the "love of his life" and soul mate, Diane Krider; she survives.
Growing up David was an Altar Boy and attended St. Brigid Elementary School. A 1965 graduate of Meadville High School, he was also a 1969 graduate of Edinboro State College. He then enlisted in the US Army. After 36 years of service, David retired from the PA Department of Welfare as a Caseworker Supervisor. He was a 25 year member of the Salvation Army Board, a member of Meadville Jaycees, American Legion Post #111 and Taylor Hose. David served on the Crawford County Drug and Alcohol Board and as a member of the Crawford County Task Force on Poverty. David attended Watson Run Presbyterian Church, Meadville. He was a member of Mickey's Golf League for 25 years along side Dave Stone. David enjoyed time spent at his home in Winter Haven, FL in 2017. An avid golfer he also enjoyed playing Poker, hunting and music; he could name all artists and song titles of the 50's and 60's. David looked forward to and attended all the activities of his grandchildren as well as his weekly dinner with granddaughter, Cailey. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. Spending time with family was his greatest joy. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his loving wife, Diane, David is survived by two daughters Jessica Colwell, esq. and her husband Gregory Piroch of Cumberland, MD, Alison Colwell of Meadville, two granddaughters Cailey Metter, Olivia Piroch, a sister Janice Williams and her husband Rodney of Greenville, three step children Dr. Jill Uberti and her husband Dr. Anthony Uberti of Hermitage, Michael Stefanucci and his wife Meghan of Meadville, Jennifer Cardon and her husband Frank of Conneaut Lake, seven step grandchildren Vincent and Dominic Uberti, Tucker Stefanucci, Emersyn, Annistyn and Jett Hruska and Giovanna Cardon. He is further survived by a brother in law Bink Jacoby, sister in law and brother in law Donna and Ken Mudger, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a sister Cynthia Jacoby.
Family and friend are invited to call on Monday from 4-7 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
Funeral Services will be held at Watson Run Presbyterian Church, 13594 Harmonsburg Rd., Meadville, at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 with Lay Pastor Greg Vanderveen officiating.
David will be laid to rest in Kiser Hill Cemetery, East Mead Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army, 1087 Park Ave., Meadville, PA 16335.
