Deacon Harvey R. McQueen, 69, of 192 Oak St., Meadville, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Meadville Medical Center.
Harvey was born in Worcester, MA on November 15, 1946, a son of the late Robert and Frances Joyce (Legge) McQueen.
On June 4, 1968 Harvey married Linda Kay Kebort; she survives.
Deacon Harvey was an active member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, having entered into the Catholic faith in 1992. In 2000 his strong beliefs lead him toward Diaconate Ordination in 2004 when he began serving as Deacon at Agatha Church. Another year of formal formation followed. In 2005 Deacon Harvey was named Chaplain at S.C.I. Prison, Cambridge Springs.
Harvey retired from Starn Tool of Meadville. He had previously been employed as Quality Assurance Manager of Reitz Tool of Cochranton where, among other things, he was in charge of OSHA Regulations. In his younger years he had been employed by Laser Tool in Saegertown for three years, by Erie Lackawanna Railroad, later known as Conrail for 13 years, by the former C & B Tool of Meadville and by Dennison's in Framingham, MA. A 1964 graduate of Hopedale High School, Hopedale, MA, he was also a 1968 graduate of Allegheny College where he earned his Bachelor of Art Degree in English. Harvey was a Third Degree member of Knights of Columbus, a member of Universal Rosary Association and an Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph, where he and his wife, Linda, were co-ordinators at St. James Haven, Meadville, when it opened. He was a former member of the Meadville Elks Club.
Over the years Deacon Harvey had many interests and hobbies. He had collected fountain pens, neck ties, bow ties and most recently cookbooks; he listened to all types of music; he was an avid reader; he admired flower gardens and he enjoyed cooking new recipes; he loved art, whether in book form or at a museum; he enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, sudokus and at times he crocheted. He delighted in being with his family especially while joking around with them.
In addition to his wife, Linda, of 47 years, Harvey is survived by a son Christopher R.M. McQueen and his wife Dana of Mt. Pleasant, a daughter Jennifer A. Wanner and her husband Brad of Mechaniscsburg, three grandchildren Johnathan O' Brien, Conor McQueen, Sarah McQueen, and a sister Dorothea McQueen of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
In addition to his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by his father in law and mother in law, Wallace and Rachael Kebort.
