Derek Omar Martin, 30, of 1263 Justine St., Pittsburgh, formerly of Detroit, MI and Meadville, passed away suddenly Friday, May 17, 2013, in Pittsburgh.
Derek was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 30, 1982, a son of Tony Martin, Sr. and the late Sharon (Crocker) Martin.
On April 20, 2013 Derek married Jamie Lee Bartley; she survives.
While living in Meadville, he was affiliated with United Faith Fellowship Church.
Derek was employed by CVS Pharmacy as a Loss Prevention Specialist and as security personnel at Ugly Dogs Saloon, both of Pittsburgh. He attended schools in Meadville and Detroit, including the Golightly Career and Technical Center, in Detroit, MI, where he learned culinary skills. His favorite pastimes included watching movies with his son, Daesean Omar, watching thunderstorms with his wife, Jamie, listening to music, creating, recording and performing his own beats. His music talents provided him the opportunity to perform on a European tour sponsored by Sony Music during the summer of 2006. Dereks sense of humor always brought a smile to everyones face as he created a positive atmosphere whenever he entered a room.
In addition to his wife, Jamie, Derek is survived by a son Daesean Omar Martin of Ohio, his father Tony Martin, Sr. of Detroit, MI, five sisters Pheia Crocker Smith and her husband Jerome of Detroit, MI, Cindy Henry of Sterling Heights, MI, Kya Petterson of Detroit, MI, Devanne Martin of Superior Twp., MI, Randi Martin of Detroit, MI, two brothers Tony Martin, Jr. of Detroit, MI, Damone Martin of Harrison Twp., MI, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Martin.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 4-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 23, 2013 with Pastor Phillip Thomas of Bible Baptist Church, officiating.
