Dominick Furno

Dominick Furno, 85, of 14714 Park Ave. Ext., Meadville, formerly of 16222 N. Shady Acres, Meadville, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013 at Meadville Rehab and Nursing.

Dominick was born in Meadville on February 10, 1928, a son of the late Dominick A. and Maria (Nuzzulo) Furno.

In April, 1947, Dominick married Opal Rubner; she survives.

After more than 35 years of service, Dominick retired from the former Abex Corporation where he worked in the machine shop. He attended Meadville schools and enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the Meadville Club, Vernon Central Social Club, the Italian Civic Club (ICC) and the Eagles Club. For many years Dominick sold Christmas trees from this property on Vanhorne Road in Meadville. It became a long standing tradition that after a family purchased their Christmas tree, Dominick always invited them into his home to give each child a wrapped Christmas gift while offering the parents a drink to warm themselves. This gave each family the opportunity to enjoy his beautifully decorated Christmas tree. On several occasions Dominick dressed up as Santa bringing joy to many children.

In addition to his wife, Opal, of 66 years, Dominick is survived by three children Becky Cousins of Erie, Sharon Manning of Alabama, Charlene Hannold and her husband Terry of Meadville, six grandchildren, Patti Hart, Scott Manning, Tonya Gido, Marc Gregor, Kristoffer Gregor and his wife Elizabeth, Sean Cousins, 11 great grandchildren Alex Gregor, Tori Gido, Andrew Gregor, Chelsea Gregor, Kassidy Gido, Randy Bucklew, Tucker Gregor, Jackson Gregor, Masyn Gregor, Savana Gregor, Dylan Cousins, one great great grandson Ace Benjamin Rankin, two brothers John Furno and his wife Marsha of Saegertown, Alfred Furno of Meadville, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dominick was preceded in death by a grandson Geoffery Gregor, five brothers Angelo, Tony, Frank, Albert and Matteo Furno, five sisters Angie Furno, Ann Guthrie, Ethel Evans, Lucy Perry and an infant sister Angelina Furno.

Family and friends are invited to call from 5-8 on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at 1:30 PM with Pastor Temple Jarrell, of New Beginnings Church of God, officiating.

Interment will take place in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
