Donald D. Powell, 79, of Meadville, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2019, at Meadville Medical Center.

Donald was born in Greenville, on March 8, 1940, a son of the late Melvin and Faye (Seley) Powell, Sr.

On June 8, 1963 Don married Rose M. Shay; she survives.

Don was a member of Hamlin Chapel.

A 1958 graduate of Conneautville High School, Don joined the US Army the day following his graduation and was honorably discharged on July 20, 1961. Over the years Don had been employed by the former American Viscose in the Spinning Dept., by the former Meadow Brook Dairy, by Leech Tool and Die and after 13 years of service, he retired from the former Bob Powell's Auto, where he worked with his brother. On March 15, 2004 Don co-founded Power Professionals and was working there up until his illness. Don was a lifetime member of Saegertown American Legion Post #205, where he served as Finance Officer as well as Treasurer. Don had a deep passion for baseball. He served as Director of French Creek Valley Region 8 Baseball on both local and regional levels and was inducted into the American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame. Don also enjoyed the rifle range and was instrumental in establishing the Bulls Eye Rifle Range. For many years he volunteered as Santa throughout the Crawford County Area where he delighted in seeing little faces light up. In his younger years, Don enjoyed hunting and bowling. He will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife, Rose of 56 years, Don is survived by three children Daniel Powell (Rose Ann), Jestine Urquhart (Robert) both of Saegertown, Tammy Moore (Allen) of Meadville; eight grandchildren; five great grandsons, a great granddaughter on the way; a foster daughter Karen Kriner of Wattsburg; six sisters Evelyn Horne of Atlantic, Helen Sullivan of Townville, Joyce Powell of Meadville, Sharon Bailey (Don) of Conneaut Lake, Linda Riorden (Bob) of Meadville, Margaret Baker (Ron) of Saegertown; two brothers; Robert "Bob" Powell (Patty) of Meadville, Richard Powell of Texas; two sisters in law Grace Wagner of Meadville, Linda Mancelli of Chicago, IL; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Stanley and a brother Melvin Powell, Jr., two brothers in law Al Shay and Stanley Shay.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 3-8 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, with an American Legion Service at 7 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 10-11 AM where Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM with Pastor Jeff Bobin of Hamlin Chapel officiating.

Don will be laid to rest in St. Hippolyte Cemetery, Guys Mills, with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006.
