Donald "Don" F. Sacco, Sr.

Donald "Don" F. Sacco, Sr., 67, of 3203 Reash Church Rd., Cochranton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at home.

Don was born at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh on January 17, 1951, a son of the late Joseph R. and Anne (Benyo) Sacco, Sr.

On October 18, 1975 Don married Barbara Knoll; she survives.

He was a member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.

After 34 years of dedicated service to teaching English, Don retired from Crawford Central School District where he began his career at the former Meadville Junior High School and finished at Cochranton Jr./Sr. High School. During his career, Don was also an enthusiastic coach of Cochranton Cardinals Football and Baseball, as well as Meadville Bulldogs baseball. A 1968 graduate of Swissvale High School, Don furthered his education by attending University of Pittsburgh, Titusville, before graduating from the former Alliance College. He went on to earn his Teaching Certificate in 1980 from Edinboro University. He was a board member of Crawford Central School District. Don enjoyed attending air shows, hunting, fishing and working in his gardens. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, he will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, of 42 years, Don is survived by three sons Michael Sacco and his wife Rhiannon of Cochranton, Matthew Sacco and his wife Karen of Independence, OH, Donald Sacco, Jr. and his wife Kelly of Sumrall, MS, six grandchildren Alayna, Juliana, Lucas, Anthony, Gabriel, Aaron, a sister Janis Fox of Erie, a brother Joseph R. Sacco, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Cochranton, seven nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 5-8 and also on Monday from 9:30-10:30 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE. A Scripture Service will be on Sunday evening at 7:30 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 13, 2018, with Fr. Jeff Lucas, Pastor, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Donald F. Sacco to Cochranton Junior Senior High School, at 105 2nd Street, Cochranton, PA 16314 for the purpose of classroom enrichment.
