Donald "Don" T. Petruso

Donald "Don" T. Petruso, 79, of 14449 State Hwy. 98, Meadville, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, Meadville.

Don was born in Meadville, on June 26, 1937, a son of the late Dominic and Ann (Durasa) Petruso.

On August 3, 1962 Don married Rose Marie Hill; she survives.

Don was a graduate of Meadville High School and Edinboro State College where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education. He furthered his education at Westminster College where he earned his certification in Guidance as well as School Administration. In 1959 Don began his teaching career at Linesville High School. He continued his career at Jamestown High School as a Guidance Counselor before joining Crawford Central School District in 1966 where he worked as a Guidance Counselor and school administrator, retiring as Principal of West End Elementary School in 2000. Don was a member and past president of educational fraternity Phi Delta Kappa Beta Nu Chapter as well as a member and past president of Vernon Township Lions Club. He was the first person to serve as president of Crawford County Big Brothers and Big Sisters. For 21 years Don co-sponsored the Student Photography Club of West End Elementary School and had served as a youth judge of photography for several years at the Crawford County Fair.

In addition to his wife Rose Marie, of 54 years, Don is survived by a sister Mary Ann Boyersmith and her husband Joe of Thornton, CO, his Uncle Sam and Aunt Betty Petruso of Erie, his Aunt Mary Schramm of Downers Grove, IL, his Aunt Eileen Petruso of Meadville, two nieces Marie DeLuca and her husband Stephan of Meadville, Kristi Crisman and her husband Tony of Thornton, CO, two great nieces Dominique DeLuca of Cleveland, OH, Victoria Crisman and a great nephew Owen Husmann, both of Thornton, CO.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a sister Frances Petruso and many other members of the Petruso and Durasa families.

At Don's request, there will be no visitation and services will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to West End Elementary School Library, 12068 Brooks Road, or Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, both in Meadville, PA 16335 or a charity of the donor's choice.
