Donald "Don" Vincent Faivre, 89, of Guys Mills, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2020 at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, following an accident that occurred in his workshop that afternoon.
Don was born in Meadville, on February 7, 1931, a son of the late Charles M. and Eva (Myers) Faivre.
On February 29, 1996 Don married Sandra "Sandy" J. Stacho Wasko; she survives.
He was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.
Don was a talented mason laying brick for many years. Over his career Don was responsible for redoing the fire brick at the former Hammer Mill Smoke stack several times. He also bricked the Meadville Airport and fire bricked the local PPG Plant. He helped build the Most Holy Mother of God Serbian Orthodox Monastery, Springboro. Don was a veteran of the US Navy from May 7, 1948 until his honorable discharge on April 18, 1952 where he worked on an oiler in the boiler room. He was also a Merchant Marine. Don enjoyed sailing, skiing, fabricating, dancing, especially Polkas, guns, target shooting and most of all racing motorcycles. He raced motorcross, for 12 years staring at the age of 45.
In addition to his wife Sandy of 24 years, Don is survived by two sons Terry Faivre of Meadville, Donald M. Faivre of Linesville, two stepsons Gregory Wasko of Saegertown, Mark Wasko, of Meadville, a stepdaughter Tammy Wasko of Pittsburgh, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Don was preceded in death by a son Jerome Faivre, three brothers and a sister.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a public Committal Service, with Fr. Jeff Lucas officiating, will be held on Monday, March 30, 2020 at 11:00 AM at St. Agatha Cemetery Chapel, which Don physically helped to build. Those attending will be asked to remain in their vehicles. Following Military Honors by VFW #2006 those in vehicles may drive by the chapel to pay their respects. If you are not able to attend, please be present in prayer.
Because Don deserves a beautiful tribute, Visitation and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date, which will be announced, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
