Dorman K. Zirkle, 91, of 17446 State Hwy. 98, Meadville, passed away Monday, February 28, 2011 at Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville.
Dorman was born in Barbour, WV on July 15, 1919, a son of the late Andrew B. and Ouida (Zickefoose) Zirkle.
On February 8, 1940 Dorman married Mary E. Dougherty; she survives.
In the early 1980s Dorman retired from the former Erie Lackawanna Railroad where he was employed as a conductor. He had previously been employed by the former American Viscose. A U.S. Army veteran during World War II, Dorman served his country from June 28, 1944 until his honorable discharge on December 21, 1945. An avid gardener, Dorman enjoyed growing his own fruits and vegetables. For more than 50 years he operated a produce stand in Littles Corners. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife Mary of 71 years, Dorman is survived by five children Kenneth Zirkle and his wife Christine of Cambridge Springs, Richard Zirkle and his wife Patricia of Saegertown, Marvin Zirkle and his wife Joyce of Brocton, NY, Doris Henderson and her husband Scott of West Mifflin, Charles Zirkle and his wife Christine of Albion, 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, four sisters Ruth Koehler of Warren, OH, Bernice Kirkwood of Meadville, Margaret Koehler of Saegertown, Virginia McGill of Meadville, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dorman was preceded in death by a sister Elva Thompson, four brothers Dowden, Arthur, Howard and Robert Zirkle.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown, PA 16433 where Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday with Rev. Robert Fuller, Pastor of Littles Corners United Methodist Church, Saegertown, officiating.
Interment will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.
