Dorothy Battista

October 1, 1935 — October 13, 2019

Dorothy Battista

Dorothy Battista, 84, of Meadville, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, October 13, 2019, at Meadville Medical Center.

Dorothy was born in Meadville, on October 1, 1935, a daughter of the late Clarence and Margaret (Whistler) Hollabaugh.

On June 29, 1957, Dorothy married Burton "Bus" Battista; he preceded her in death on April 2, 1988.

She was of the Christian Faith.

Dorothy went to Meadville High School, where she made some of the best friendships that lasted a lifetime.  In her earlier years, she had been employed by the former Talon Inc.  She later went on to provide personal in-home care for various families in the area. For more than 50 years, Dorothy enjoyed getting together with her card club friends on a monthly basis.  She also enjoyed making ceramics for holiday decorating. She loved being a homemaker and raising her family.  She especially loved spending time in the kitchen.  Dorothy had a natural talent for cooking and baking.  She enjoyed making her favorite family recipes, but was also willing to cook something new; whether it was a recipe she found scanning through her cookbook collection or a recipe she not-so-discreetly tore out of a magazine at her doctor’s office waiting room.  When Dorothy wasn't in the kitchen she could be found watching the Food Network on television.  Family gatherings and sharing meals always made her the happiest. Dorothy loved all her family deeply and especially delighted in her grandchildren.  She will be sadly missed.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters; Shelly Ricke (Steve) of St. Cloud, FL and Chrissy Giliberto (Todd) of Meadville; five grandchildren Jenna and Jordan Ricke of St. Cloud, FL, Matthew Gotto of Saegertown, Rocco and Gino Giliberto both of Meadville. She also is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and great friends.

In addition to her parents and her beloved husband Bus of 31 years, Dorothy was preceded in death by two sons; Dominic and Michael Battista and a brother Albert Hollabaugh.

The family would like to especially thank Dr. Ryan Landefeld and his office staff, Dr. John Ziegler and his office staff, Active Aging, Helpmates, VNA Alliance and Northwest Pharmacy Solutions for all of their great care.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, October 18, 2019 from 3-7 PM and on Saturday from 10-11 AM at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM with Pastor Temple Jarrell of New Beginnings Church of God officiating. Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her husband, Bus, in St. Brigid Cemetery.
