Dorothy Jean Pope, 66, of Golden Living Center, Cambridge Springs, died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Millcreek Community Hospital, Erie.
She was born in Como, Mississippi on May 23, 1944, a daughter of the late Van and Josie (Welbourne) Pope.
She attended Como Schools in Como, Mississippi and then moved to Meadville in 1964.
In her earlier years, she did confess at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Como, Mississippi.
Dorothy worked at the former Avtex and J.C. Lee Construction Company for many years in Meadville. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family and close lifelong friends.
Survivors include one daughter, Cora Lee Pope of Meadville; one son, William Carter Jr. and his wife, Sara Carter, of Cochranton; a niece she raised, Belinda Washington of Erie; and four grandchildren, Kimberly Daniels, Gabriel Carter, Aden Carter, and Dylan Duncan. She is also survived by a brother, A.D. Pope and a sister, Helen (Lee) Porter, both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Lilly Mae Hardin, Queen Esther Pope, Catherine Daniels, Ada Mae Gaines; and two brothers, J.W. Pope and Johnnie B. Lomax.
Calling hours will be Friday from 9-11 a.m. at St. Johns Missionary Full Gospel Baptist Church, 792 N. Main St., Meadville, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Bishop Stanley K. Smith, pastor, officiating.
Interment will take place in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
The family suggests that memorials be made to St. Johns Missionary Full Gospel Baptist Church, 792 N. Main St., Meadville, PA 16335.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
