Douglas "Doug" R. Harrison, 82, of Saegertown, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022, at home, surrounded by his family.

Doug was born in Meadville, on July 26, 1939, a son of the late James R. and Anna (Murray) Harrison.

He had been married to Sharon Gamble.

In February, 2003 Doug retired from Meadville Forge where he had been employed since April, 1976. Prior to that he was employed by SMC from 1965-1976. A proud veteran, Doug first entered the US Army in September, 1957 and served his country honorably until his discharge in September, 1959. He reenlisted in the Army in July, 1961 and served until his second honorable discharge in July, 1964. He was a fair and tough Drill Instructor as well as Platoon Sergeant and was awarded many commendations including awards for his Marksmanship and Sharpshooting skills. A lifetime member of VFW Post #2006, he was also a member of Saegertown American Legion Post #205. His hobbies included restoring and rebuilding automobiles as well as building model cars and model airplanes. He also enjoyed playing Angry Birds on Facebook, attending the annual fly-in and car show at the Meadville Airport, following NASCAR especially Jeff Gordon, and putting his classic cars in local parades. Doug will be remembered for his love of country and family; he will be sadly missed.

Doug is survived by four daughters Renee A. Harrison (Cynthia Davis) of Gastonia, NC, Robin L. Newhook (Dr. Lawrence) of Cambridge Springs, Pamela R. Harrison (Ben Crawford) of Conneaut Lake, Stacy L. Harrison of Franklin; three grandchildren Michaela Duke, Gabrielle Duke, Alaric Harrison; a brother Robert Harrison (Betty) of Atlantic; nieces and nephews Jeffrey Harrison, James Harrison (Lori), John Harrison (Esther), Patricia Harrison, and Joseph Harrison.

Family and friends are invited to call from 11 AM - 1 PM on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where funeral services will follow at 1 PM with Rev. Jeff Conley, Pastor of Meadville Alliance Church, officiating.

Doug will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery with Full Military Honors by Vietnam Veterans Post #52.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, Meadville, PA 16335.
