Dr. Luther Roland Zehner

Dr. Luther Roland Zehner, 90, of 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, formerly of 889 Maple Lane, Meadville, passed away Saturday, March 30th, 2013 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.
Dr. Luther was born in Reading on February 21, 1923, a son of the late Adam A. and Isabella (Zeigler) Zehner.
On August 17, 1949 Dr. Zehner married Frances Joan Townsend; she preceded him in death on February 3, 2009.
He had been a member of First Christian Church, Meadville.
A graduate of Juanita College, Dr. Zehner went on to receive his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical School. He completed his Surgical Residency at Harrisburg Hospital. Dr. Zehner served three years in the Indian Service, serving as a physician on Fort Yates Reservation in North Dakota as well as on Fort Defiance Reservation in Arizona. He learned to speak the Lakota Sioux language and in 1952 Dr. and Mrs. Zehner were adopted into the Lakota Tribe. In 1956 they moved to Meadville where Dr. Zehner set up medical practice with an office on Diamond Park. Dr. Zehner had a passion for his vocation and he had a lifelong love of Native American culture.
Dr. Zehner is survived by a daughter Gail Martin and her husband Larry of Charlotte, NC, their three children Kyrie, Chandler and Cody, four nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife Frances of 59 years, Dr. Zehner was preceded in death by a brother Dr. Richard Zehner and a sister Dr. Kathryn Zehner.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 5-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 PM with Rev. Darrell Greenawalt, Pastor of Saegertown United Methodist Church, officiating.
A private interment will be held in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
