Dr. William 'Bill' James Morris, 65, of 16315 S. Mosiertown Rd., Saegertown, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013 at home.
Bill was born in Pittsburgh, on August 30, 1948, a son of Thelma (Huddart) Morris and the late William W. Morris.
William married Delma 'Dolly' Lutz; she survives.
Following his 1966 graduation from the former Dormont High School, Pittsburgh, Bill enrolled in Bucknell University, Lewisburg, where in 1970, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. He went on to graduate as a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. While receiving his formal education, Bill was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and one year over Christmas break at Bucknell University, he made the trip of a lifetime to Russia over the new year. Upon completion of his residency at Magee-Womans Hospital and St. Margarets Hospital, both of Pittsburgh, Dr. Morris practiced medicine in Carnegie. In July of 1981 he opened his practice in Meadville, where for the next 27 years, he worked as a successful Obstetrician/Gynecologist. After his retirement in 2008, Dr. Morris continued working at Meadville Community Health Center and Conneaut Valley Health Center. He had also worked at Greenfield Counseling, Inc. in Meadville. Dr. Morris was very proud of the many babies he delivered throughout his career, each one bringing delight and gratification.
Dr. Morris was a member of the International Society for General Semantics as well as a member and President of the Pittsburgh Chess Club. A skilled chess player, he participated in on-line as well as postal/correspondence chess, playing in many tournaments. He was music enthusiast, listening to all types of music from 1970s rock to classical. He was an avid reader, especially enjoying classics, science fiction and history books. He was also a huge movie and history buff with a special interest in the Civil War.
In addition to his wife, Dolly, Dr. Morris is survived by four children William B. Morris of Charlotte, NC, Amelia Morris and her husband Matthew Bookman of Los Angeles, CA, Margaret Bowman and her husband Cory of Chesapeake, VA, Paul Morris of Colorado, two grandchildren due to be born in January and April of 2014, his mother Thelma Morris of Mt. Lebanon, a brother Gary Morris and his wife Bridget of Pittsburgh, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, Dr. Morris was preceded in death by a step-son Travis Barco and a brother Ronald Morris.
Family and friends are invited to call from 12-2 on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM.
