Edward "Ed" Harrison Kirkwood

Edward "Ed" Harrison Kirkwood, 71, of 15960 Crestview Dr., Meadville, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016, at UPMC-Hamot Medical Center, Erie.

Ed was born in Glassport, on June 1, 1945, a son of Bernice (Zirkle) Kirkwood and the late Walter J. Kirkwood, Jr.

On October 22, 2012 Ed married Nancy Jane Vogel; she survives.

He was a member of Church of the Nazarene, Meadville.

Following his 1964 graduation from Glassport High School, Ed was employed by McKeesport Hospital in Pittsburgh. Over the years, he had been employed by Kebert Construction Company, as a representative for the AFL-CIO Union, by PennDot in the Drivers Examiner Department where he was a representative for the AFSCME union, by Crawford Central School District in the Maintenance Department and by Fleming Foods in El Paso, TX. A huge sports fan, Ed especially enjoyed soccer and following the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Penguins. His other interest included hunting, fishing and woodworking. He had a strong, deep love of his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed.

In addition to his wife, Nancy Jane, Ed is survived by four children Edward B. Kirkwood and his wife Caren of Ludlow, KY, Kathy Kirkwood and her companion Ed Holler, Ann Lawless and her companion Steven Fields, both of Meadville, Christopher VanHuss and his wife Jody of Amelia, OH, eleven grandchildren, his mother Bernice Kirkwood of Meadville, a sister Darlene Byers, a brother A. Dwaine Kirkwood and his wife Shirley both of Meadville, numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Ed was preceded in death by a niece Karen Byers, a nephew Brian Byers and his family.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, August 11, 2016, from 1-3 PM at Church of the Nazarene, 851 Washington St., Meadville, where Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM with Rev. Rodney A. Johnson, Pastor, officiating.

Ed will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
