Edward "Ed/Eddie" Sternby

November 16, 1938 — December 25, 2024

Saegertown, PA

The adventurous spirit of Edward “Ed/Eddie" Sternby age 86, of Saegertown, peacefully passed on December 25, 2024, surrounded by and in the hearts of his loving family. 

Ed was born on November 16, 1938, and grew up in Crawford County. He was an active member of the Saegertown United Methodist Church and married his high school sweetheart and soul mate, the late Charlotte “Charlie” Sternby, of Meadville. 

He then proudly joined the US Navy where he was a radar technician on a destroyer escort, the USS Dealey. His adventures included riding their Harley across the US and Europe. There were many family trips including camping and fishing. This included a cross-country trip across the US in the Wee-Blu-Inn after beating cancer. He was an active member of the Boy Scouts in his early adult years and more recently a Shriner and Mason. He was also a respected business leader and proud veteran. His later life was centered at the “farm” he built and where he spent his final years. The animal farm was conveniently located near the Saegertown American Legion where he frequently met with friends and family. 

Ed is survived by all those who called him Dad, Cathy and Bob Heist of Cape Canaveral, FL, Ed and Lori Sternby II of Economy, PA, Vic and Melanie Sternby of Economy, PA, Teresa and Dave Tujetsch of Indian Land, SC; those who called him grandpa/pap-pap, Dusty and Rachael Heist-Levine of Bozeman, MT, Dr. Doran and Sierra Heist of Merritt Island, FL, Lara Ylinen Heist and Johannes of Austria, Tori and Rob Anderson of Allison Park, PA, Liz and Justin Lausch of Lititz, PA, Sarah and Mike Damico of Economy, PA, Heather and Mo Miloua of Valencia PA, Nick Sternby of Baltimore, MD, Amber Tujetsch of Pineville, NC, Trey Tujetsch of Indian Land, SC, Jim and Kathy Belfiore of AZ, Jeremy Belfiore of TX; and 15 wonderful great grandchildren. 

Family and friends are invited to call from 3-5 PM on Monday, December 30, 2024, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 330 BROAD ST., SAEGERTOWN, with a Celebration of Life Service and Veterans ceremony to follow at 5 PM with Reverend Jeffrey T. St. Clair of Saegertown United Methodist Church officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ed’s memory to Saegertown United Methodist Church/children bible school or Saegertown Volunteer fire department. Ed will be most remembered for living life on his own terms.
