Eileen N. “Shorty” Slagle (Martin) born in Pittsburgh on February 16, 1927, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022 at home with her loved ones by her side.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years William A. Slagle Sr, and two great grandchildren.
She is survived by her three loving children, Yvonne E Fleet, William (Mary) Slagle Jr, and Sandra O. Bates, six grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Eileen’s many adventures in life started at 14 years of age with employment at the Clark Candy Company. She married William A Slagle Sr. Apr 7, 1947 and they owned/operated Bill & Shorty's diner in Pittsburgh for several years before moving their family to "The Country" in Guys Mills, PA. Eileen enjoyed gardening, canning, DYI projects, and raising her family. She loved her Pittsburgh family’s summertime visits, especially the months her parents and mother-in-law stayed. She went back into the workforce starting at SMC in Saegertown, then at the YMCA Daycare as an aid. Which led to last position as the receptionist for 14 years at Meadville City Hall. A job she loved dearly, as well as those she worked with. During which time she completed her GED at 60 years old. But her greatest accomplishment were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was their biggest fan. Her love of watching the Steeler’s play, sewing, ceramics, playing cards, playing games on her IPhone, a good cup of tea, and watching her grand & great grandchildren playing sports were all enjoyable parts of her life. Eileen was always “terrific” when asked, and she was loved by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for summer 2022.
Arrangements are under the direction of STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
