Eleanor "Ellie" Dougherty

Eleanor "Ellie" Dougherty, 79, of Meadville, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021, at Meadville Medical Center.

Ellie was born at home in South Pymatuning Township, Mercer County, on March 20, 1942, a daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Kubyako) Ledney.

On May 5, 1962 Ellie married John W. Dougherty; he survives.

She was a faithful member of The Epiphany of The Lord Parish, St. Agatha Church. She loved her weekly prayer group and cherished her many trips to Medjugorje . These experiences were very special to her and made her faith even stronger.

Ellie attended Lone Star Elementary School and graduated in 1960 from Sharpsville High School. She furthered her education at Greenville School of Nursing, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse and became employed as an LPN at the former Spencer Hospital. In the 1980's she obtained her realtor license and worked for Bainbridge Kaufman which later became known as Caldwell Bankers. In the 1990's Ellie eventually gave up working to become a full time "Honey", baby sitting her grandchildren; this brought Ellie much happiness. She enjoyed shopping, working in her vegetable garden, her yard and her secret garden. Ellie was full of faith and love. She will be sadly missed.

In addition to her husband, John, of nearly 60 years, Ellie is survived by a son David A. Dougherty (companion Gerilyn) of Parma, OH; a daughter Theresa "Terri" Pringle (Dale) of Meadville; five grandchildren Kyle, Jacob and Zachary Dougherty, Alexis and Courtney Pringle; three great grandchildren Nolia, Cieanna, Evelyn; two sisters Irene Horodnic (George), Jane Zalewski both of Hermitage; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ellie was preceded in death by a sister Annie Vavrek; and a brother Michael Ledney.

Family and friends are invited to call from 2-5 on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Scripture Service will be held at 4:30.

Family and friends are also invited to call from 10-10:45 AM on Monday, December 6, 2021, at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, 2230 Highland Rd., Hermitage, where a Funeral of Divine Liturgy will follow at 11:00 AM with Father Kevin Marks officiating.

Ellie will be laid to rest in St. John's Orthodox Church Cemetery, Hermitage.
