Ernest S. Banks, 79, of 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, passed away Sunday, December 13th, 2009 at Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville.
Ernest was born in Haynes, AR on May 15, 1930, a son of the late Jake Morse Banks and Rosie Banks.
On December 25, 1948 Ernest married Esther Mae Wofford; she preceded him in death on June 3, 1994.
He was a member of Beacon Liberty Street Temple Church of God in Christ, Meadville.
Ernest was self employed in the yard maintenance business. He previously had been employed as a custodial worker for the Meadville Country Club and as crane operator by Mercer Alloys of Greenville. A gifted musician, Ernest had a passion for playing the guitar and in his earlier years had been a personal friend of B.B. King. He was also a talented singer, piano player and harmonica player.
Ernest is survived by five children Christine Brown of Meadville, Gloria Banks of Chicago, Joyce Davis of Pittsburgh, Ernest Steine Banks, Jr. of Meadville, Juanita B. Seawood of Ruther Glen, VA, 15 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, two brothers Freddie Wesson, R.C. Banks both of Memphis, TN, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his wife Esther of 45 years and his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by a sister Fannie Mae Wofford.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 7-9 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
A Home Going Service will be held at Beacon Liberty Street Temple Church of God in Christ, Meadville, at 12:00 on Friday, December 18th, 2009 with Rev. Tyrone T. Steals, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will take place in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville.
