Essie Lee Wofford

Essie Lee Wofford, 90, of 20881 State Hwy. 198, Saegertown, formerly of 829 S. Grant St., Meadville, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016, at Crawford County Care Center.

Essie was born in Round Pond, AR on March 1, 1926, a daughter of the late John Henry and Willie Rice.

On January 17, 1946 Essie married James Monroe Wofford, Sr.; he preceded her in death on August 3, 1992.

After many years of service, Essie retired from the Maintenance Department of Crawford Central School District. She had previously been employed by the former Flickenger Nursing Home for ten years. She enjoyed knitting. Essie was a faithful member of Beacon Liberty St. Temple Church of God in Christ for more than 56 years. Her life revolved around the church and she loved her Lord deeply.

Essie is survived by six children Cordie Lee Wofford of Meadville, Ida Jefferson and her husband Sam of St. Louis, MO, Larry Leon Wofford and his wife Tina, Marilyn Jean Hughes, Elvis Arnold Wofford, Alice Patricia Wofford, all of Meadville, 26 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, James, of 46 years, Essie was preceded in death by two sons Charles Wofford, James M. Wofford, Jr., two brothers and five sisters.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, October 7, from 5-7 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.

A Going Home Service will be held at New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville, on Saturday, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 8th, with her son, Pastor Larry Leon Wofford, officiating.

Essie will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beacon Liberty St. Temple Church of God in Christ, 11292 Liberty Street Ext., Meadville, PA 16335.
