Ethel Jean (Limano) Basile

Ethel Jean (Limano) Basile, of 154 Reynolds Ave., Meadville, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015, at home, surrounded by her family.

Ethel was born in Meadville, on February 21, 1923, a daughter of the late John and Virginia (Passilla) Limano.

On July 31, 1945 Ethel married Joseph A. Basile; he survives.

She was a life long member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church and of the Altar Rosary Society. Over the years she volunteered with countless church fundraisers.

After many years of service, Ethel retired from the Food Service Department of Crawford Central School District. In her earlier years, she was employed by the former Talon, Inc., the former American Viscose and the former Grants Store. She was a 1942 graduate of Meadville High School. Ethel was an active lifetime member of the Italian Civic Club (ICC) Auxiliary where she had served as a financial officer. Additionally she ran the cookie booth and made the pizzells for their Italian Festivals and spaghetti dinners. Ethel loved playing B.I.N.G.O. and going on casino trips.

In addition to her husband, Joseph, of 69 years, Ethel is survived by a sister Betty Saputo, a brother Michael Limano and his wife Charlene, both of Meadville, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by a sister Grace Higby, two brothers Joseph Limano, Pete Limano and a nephew Donald Saputo.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, from 12-3 PM at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.

Following visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, at 3:30 PM with Fr. Matthew Kujawinski, Pastor, officiating.

Ethel will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery West Mead Twp.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, or Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., both in Meadville, PA 16335.
