Eugene Sas

Eugene "Gene" Sas, 90, of Guys Mills, passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at home.

Gene was born on July 3, 1931, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late John and Mary (Glapinsky) Sas.

On July 14, 1956 Gene married Lucille Kraska; she preceded him in death on June 13, 2009.

Gene was a member of St. Hippoltye Roman Catholic Church, Frenchtown.

Gene attended Allegheny High School and graduated from Schenley High School in Pittsburgh. On November 18, 1952 he entered the US Army serving in the Signal Corps Communications and later became a Corporal of Nato Dispatcher Unit handling transportation for top brass and dignitaries. He served much time in Rome, Pescia and Venice, Italy before his honorable discharge on October 14, 1954. He attained the rank of Corporal and was a recipient of the National Defense Service medal. For the next 19 years Eugene was employed by Allis Chalmers in the River Plant Hydraulic Press Department. In 1974 he and Lucille moved to Guys Mills and Gene became employed as a tool grinder for Lord Corporation, retiring in 1994 after 20 years of service. Eugene and Lucille enjoyed remodeling and updating their home, turning it into their dream home. An avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Boston Celtics fan, Gene also enjoyed attending the Erie Sea Wolves games. When watching sports, he and Tammy would enjoy a big bowl of popcorn and ice cream. He also liked having a beer and hot dog as well as Taco Bell tacos with Dakota and Applebees with Tammy. Gene loved his two cats Precious and Big Boy and became fond of Tammy and Dakota's five dogs. He looked forward to their visits and always had treats ready for them. His hobbies included woodworking, gardening and visiting antique shops. He will be most remembered as a loving, kind and generous person.

Eugene is survived by his companions Dakota and Tammy Keeno whom he loved like his own son and daughter, and many friends.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Lucille, of 52 years, he was preceded in death by a step brother Victor Trojanor in 1971 and his favorite cousin Wanda Capanec in 2019.

Per Eugene's wishes, no services will be held. He will be laid to rest next to the love of his life, Lucille, in St. Hippolyte Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Eugene's memory to ANNA Shelter, 1555 E. 10th St., Erie, PA 16511.

Arrangements are under the direction of STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
